I don’t think the October issue of Kiplingers Personal Finance magazine is quite out yet, but here is an early look at their article on The Many Faces of Jim Cramer

My take on Step 6 of the 12 Step Program for Active Investors: Under New Management

Our Guru has his portfolio…   Benchmarked and comes up wanting.

David says not to promote Battlestar Galactica. You say it needs fixed. What’s broken?

Also, several people have written to say the Action Alerts Plus Google Alerts trick is broken. Awwwww.

Pigiron won the book! (How’s the gold doing?) Gimme your address and the book will be on its way to you.

More detail about the Petersburg Payout. It is actually called the Petersburg Paradox. Read more about it in Peter Bernstein’s book, Against the Gods, written in 1996… BEFORE the .COM craze!

This week’s Tool in the Crib is the most fantastic thing I have never seen.

A thought experiment: Why is it impossible for Jim Cramer’s stock picks to be the best performers?

I talk about the performance of Jim’s Mad Money featured stocks from February.

MMM one of Kiplinger’s "Must-read BLOGGERS"

I am honored to announce that the October 2006 issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine has named Mad Money Machine as one of its ‘Must-read BLOGGERS.’ Author David Landis says, "These pundits skewer the experts and offer great investment insights." A little cross-promotion never hurt anyone, right?

The magazine will also feature a story called "Booyah! The Manic Universe of Jim Cramer," on page 38. So I’m sure all of us Cramericans will want to get a copy. And stay subscribed to the Mad Money Machine podcast for a full rundown. Also mentioned in the article is Leonard the Wonder Monkey, but says to check the Mad Money Machine for a more consistent examination of Cramer’s picks and pans. I believe that MMM is the only blog to also have a podcast, which the article did say was available.

Here’s the list, which I copied from The Kirk Report…

Congratulations all bloggers and keep up the great work!

And hey "must-read bloggers"… if you’d like some help setting up a podcast, just drop me an email at (feedback AT MadMoneyMachine.com) and perhaps we can work together and create a "must-listen podcasters" list!

First, this table shows only the FEATURED stocks from the show. I don’t bother to review the performance of the Lightning Round stocks because Leonard the Wonder Monkey does a good enough job of that.

Next, this is not a complete list (V and CEI are missing, for example) and I did not take into account any reversal to BEARISH that Cramer may have had since he recommended the stock (example: VTSS).

Also, I did not reinvest any dividends.

Finally, I’m not an accountant, tax advisor, or even an error-free Excel operator, so there are PROBABLY mistakes in the table. Help me fix them if you find them.

So, with all those caveats out of the way, here’s the bottom line: The average performance of his February Featured Stock thru mid-day Thursday, 14 September is……

-6.2%.

By way of comparison, the IFA 100 Portfolio from 1 March to 31 August is +1.38%

Google Watch begins: GOOG to 500 says Cramer

Tonight, Jim Cramer said he expects Google (GOOG) to get to $500 “soon” because the money fund managers will start looking at 2007 expected earnings ($12.50/share) instead of 2006 earnings ($10/share) and with a 40 multiple, the stock should get to $500 “soon.” I quoth him thusly, “By October, Google should be a lot more expensive than it is now.” [today’s close: $391.90] “By January 1st, it should be even higher.”

So I am adding to the sidebar a “Google Watch” to see if by 1 Oct we can be higher than $391.90 and a lot higher than that by 1 January 2007.

Also, be looking to see if there is any Cramer Crackle left in his show. I see that the after-hours traders took it up as high as $394.45 this evening while watching Mad Money. Usually it comes back down a few points in the first hour of trading the next day. Will be interesting to watch.

Like I promised, no show this week!

So my family was visiting in town this week. And I did a talk about my podcast for my neighbor’s company today. And like all the other high-quality podcasts that take a break in August, I wanted to be in good company and skip a week. Hey, this is so much fun, maybe I’ll skip TWO weeks!!! Keep a lookout though, you never know. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

Oh, and I will also say this: If you want me to come and give a talk at your company or event, I’m all set now! I have the PowerPoint slides to go with it and everything. Just get me there and I’m ready to do it. Here’s more details:

Title: so you wanna podcast?
Topics:
What is a podcast?
How I got into in podcasting
Me and Jim Cramer’s Mad Money
My podcast’s success
Apostasy!
The Efficient Frontier
Getting the best sound
How to podcast your passion

I can make the talk as long or as short as you want it (and not just by talking really slow or fast!).

How much would you pay to take Paul’s place?

Based upon something called the Petersburg Paradox, I have created a market at Inkling (inklingmarkets.com) called Petersburg’s Payout.

I will flip a coin until it comes up heads. Tails pays nothing. But if it comes up heads the first time, I will pay Paul $2. If it comes up heads the 2nd time, I will pay Paul $4. If it is the 3rd time, Paul gets $8. If it is the 4th time, Paul gets $16 and so on until heads comes up. How much will you be willing to pay Paul to take his place in the Petersburg Payout game?

The payout will be on a PER SHARE basis, so if heads comes upon on the 4th flip, the payout will be $16 per share. (I think… this is my first market and not sure this is going to work.)

There are two days where I will flip the coin: 30 August and 27 September.

I’ll be talking about this on my next show. Not sure if this will work out as something interesting or not, but hey, it doesn’t cost anything so let’s let it float up and see…

Here’s more than you’d ever want to know about the Petersburg Paradox.
