MMM-058: Russian Guru Roulette this week. Jim Jubak recommended 5 ETFs for 2007. CXOAdvisory group keeps track of his and other gurus’ performances.

MMM-057: Don McDonald is the host of the Don McDonald show and also a co-host of Sound Investing. He is also the inventor of the Tackamap(tm). You absolutely MUST watch his video workshop on investing. It takes about an hour, so you’ll have to miss one of your TV shows.

MMM-053: Charles Schwab, when asked, “If you could give one bit of financial advice to someone who’s just starting out, what would you say?” His answer, “Buy index funds and ETFs. That might not seem like enough action to a 25-year-old, but it’s the smartest thing to do. Put most of your energy into your work and learn to communicate. I think the people who become really successful are those who sense what others are feeling and how to make them comfortable.”

MMM-052: Paul Samuelson, 91 years old. His wisdom on stocks can be summed up as follows: Market prices are the best estimates of value. Price changes follow random patterns. And future stock prices are unpredictable. “I tell people (investing) should be dull. It shouldn’t be exciting. Investing should be more like watching paint dry or watching grass grow,” Samuelson says. “If you want excitement, take $800 and go to Las Vegas.”

MMM-047: Ray Kurzweil now apparently runs a hedge fund (subscription required), which I can only assume he is trying to leverage his future-predicting powers to stocks. I have a pretty powerful snowglobe that can do the same thing.

MMM-046: John P. Scordo, Esq. does us a great service by aggregating financial research at research-finance.com.

MMM-044: Aaron Brown has written a fascinating book, The Poker Face of Wall Street.

MMM-042: William F. Sharpe gave us the Capital Asset Pricing Model and the Sharpe Ratio. Listen to Pro Money Talk podcast from 28 June and 12 July for an interview with William Sharpe. It is a good one.

MMM-039: Wall Street Week with Fortune Karen Gibbs said, “Jean-Marie Eveillard [is] a bottoms-up value investor and possibly the best fund manager on the planet.”

MMM-038: Burton Malkiel, author of A Random Walk Down Wall Street. This one is a classic. Note, new edition comes out in January 2007.

MMM-037: Frank who?

MMM-036: Bill Miller of the Legg Mason Value Trust (LMVTX) mutual fund. Is the ONLY mutual fund manager to beat the S&P 500 for ten years in a row. He is in grave danger of not making it in 2006. See page 53 of Index Funds: The 12-Step Program for Active Investors for a quote from him.

MMM-034: John “Jack” Bogle founded the Vanguard Group and introduced the Vanguard 500 Index fund, now the largest mutual fund in the world. Read his two books:
